On a day to day basis, I work through any outstanding apprenticeship work that needs to be done and also work with my mentor or jobs related to my job role to help me get a jist of how we do things in this company.
I have learnt a lot of new skills because I had no up to date skills to understand this job role. Both the apprentice days and being in the office has helped me develop not only more job specific skills but also personal skills. I have learnt to become more confident and organised within this job role and have also benefited my time keeping and punctuality skills.
I enjoy my apprenticeship programme greatly. I have fitted in well with the whole group and made lots of new friends. We try to socialise a bit outside of work as well and that's shown because as a group we are quite close with eachother and everyone will speak to everyone else. I like the days where we just do apprenticeship work as it's always easy to get on with things.
I feel very valued by HSBC because they give us a lot of opportunities even though we are only apprentices. We are treat how people are treat when they've been at a company for years! I love working here.
Our programme is structured well. We have a day every two weeks where our group of apprentices come together to learn things to be able to complete our assignments. We have easy access to our tutor as well which I think it good incase we need any help.
Our tutor is always available to go see him, email him or Sametime him if we have any issues or whatever. He is quick at responding so we are never waiting for a reply, especially if it's something important. We tend to get good feedback on our assignments too, so we know how we are doing.
HR Direct is probably the easiest way to receiving help from this employer. They are always willing to listen to you and are quick at responding.
My salary is perfect for me. Not many 19 year olds can say they earn the amount I do. I am perfectly happy with what I come out with a month and I am never short of cash towards the end of the month.
There are lots of opportunities outside of work, mostly social events. We have apprentice nights out but also team nights out. To be honest, you can pretty much plan something between people from work, depending on whether they're in your team or not. We have a social club where you can play lots of different sports. We also take part in the Brathay Challenge too which is a worldwide competition to find out the best Apprentice team.
Yes
Definitely - it's the kind of job which gets you out of bed in a morning. I love working for this company and would love people to experience the same thing as me!
Be prepared and do your research - they ask for a lot of information based on HSBC's values and things like that so you need to research them to know about them. Just be confident too!
