I am a Marketing Brand Manager in the Workforce skills team with a main focus on the BTEC qualification. I head up the marketing on the BTEC Awards, the BTEC Spring Campaign, Results Day and BTEC Options. I look after a small team who support me in doing this as well.
I have learnt a lot of new skills whilst being in this role - when I first joined Pearson in 2018 on a L3 Marketing apprenticeship, I had no prior marketing experience so everything I have learned is new and developing. The course has helped developed the skills I learned on the Level 3 and also taught me new skills.
That's a difficult question. The course content is really enjoyable and so is being on the course, however, its ALOT of work alongside a full time job. When signing up, I don't think I realised the full extent of how much time and effort would have to go in alongside my job.
Pearson always try to give me extra time towards my apprenticeship however, sometimes with the amount of work on it's not doable. The organisation could be a little better in terms of getting us deadline dates earlier and also our day has been switched multiple times from Thursday to Monday to Thursday to Monday to Thursday to Tuesday. Which has been annoying because I have to update my team with which days I'm unavailable.
Pearson are very supportive. I have weekly catch ups with my line manager and she always tries to make sure I have the time away I need for uni. The employee apprenticeship team offer catch up sessions, Q and As, mentoring and lots of other things to make sure we all feel supported.
My training provider has been good. We have a rocky start but sorted it and now they offer a lot of support. I have a check in each term and have email addresses and mobile numbers in case I have any questions. Our course leader has been fantastic - she is always around if we need her.
The content I learned on the course has been really helpful within my role. The module I found most useful was brand management as this had a direct relation to my job as brand manager. I'm using what I learned in this module to help with my dissertation that I have focused on the BTEC brand.
There are so many activities and groups that people can get involved in. We have the PRIDE group, PRIME, D&I, Veterans, Females in authority, sports groups - running, swimathon and so much more. There are so many groups to join on Neo - this is our internal social platform. There's a networking event for Gen Z in a few weeks.
Yes
Great opportunities for learning and development, and also great benefits packages. Colleagues turn to friends easily at Pearson and everyone wants whats best for the business and consumer which is a positive. Also they took a chance on a 20 year old with no degree and I can't thank them enough for that.
Good question - I think just be yourself. Don't try and pretend to be something you're not. You need to care about education and progression and the consumers we focus on. Share your ideas, network with each other. Pearson is a great place for learning and development but you need to take it seriously.
