  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • support role in the management of commercial property in the city. roles include service charge budget setting, raising recharges to tenants, arranging pop up events to improve the atmosphere at the properties. other duties include arranging and minuting tenant meetings, as well as writing various reports. A large part of the role is responding to individual requests from tenants and communicating with them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have leant how to write reports to a higher level, and understand how various elements make up property management. I have developed an ability to be more efficient with regards to speed of work which has helped hugely as the role has got busier over time. client skills have also improved.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy much of the programme. there are a lot of medial tasks but I understand that this is part and parcel of it. I think that the balance of work and studying can be challenging at times as it takes up much of the weekend also. in general I do enjoy it yes.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the set up works quite well and offers good flexibility by doing distance learning. this has meant that if I am required for various meetings etc. we can move the study and this degree of flexibility works well. all in all I think it is well structured

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I think there is support when you ask for it. It would be good if the support system was as integrated as say the grad scheme which offers more levels of it in my opinion. hopefully this is something which happens more over time. HR support has been useful and structured.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • the apprenticeship co-ordinator offers a great line of support at the university. however beyond this there is not much more as various tutors etc are part time so it is hard to get hold of someone when you want to sometimes. this has been frustrating occasionally but the apprenticeship co-ordinator has helped lots here.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • this has helped a lot more so in the second year of the course. property law ties in heavily with property management due to working with leases etc. this has played a huge part in cementing my technical knowledge on this front. some of the modules were more generic at times.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have previously been involved with volunteering at the various schools events. these have typically been schools in a less well-off area, and educating them about property being a career path whilst doing it in an enjoyable way. this was achieved through a mixture of presentations but also fun games.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • there is a nice community feel within most of Savills. the people working here tend to be quite friendly and like to help other people out. it is also a large company so it offers many future career paths which is good to ensure that you don't get stuck in something you don't want to do.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
  • If someone were to be applying to savills, i would encourage them to get to know as many people in the company to gauge the atmosphere and dynamics. company culture is a big thing and it took me a little while to get that. therefore getting this in advance would be good.
