  • Auditing - involves analysing and verifying financial statements to ensure that they represent a true and fair overview of the audited entity. In addition to the above day to day role also involved preparing for and siting the ACA examinations with the aim of becoming ACA qualified

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • No prior experience of accounting before starting this role. Huge number of new skills learnt as well as skills developed further. Analytical skills, communication skills, project management, team management, critical thinking, excel skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Program was enjoyable. Made friends for life with whole cohort going through the same experience. Work can be challenging with significant time pressure and workload. Can also be stressful to manage both work and studies. But overall an enjoyable experience

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Reasonably well organised. Hundreds of trainees onboarded every year with clear program structure. However communication can be lacking at times

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Good level of support received. Sufficient study leave time given. Not all exams are college taught though and I would have prefer to spend more time at college

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • BPP are average. Often struggle to mark papers in time. Big quality differences between teachers on programs

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Qualification is essential to an accounting role. Elements directly relate to day to day job with parts of job only being understood once sat in exams

  • Yes

  • Overall positive experience. Work life balance is an issue industry wide, but overall BDO have been supportive throughout the qualification

  • Do it!
