In my final year, I am a full fledged member of the Equipment Engineering department. I have proper responsability to aid in the maintenence and calibration of over 500 pieices of registered equipment on site. I also aid with the higher level Equipment Engineers with their more advanced projects around the factory.
I have learnt so many skills since the start of my apprenticeship that it's hard to keep track of. I have gained an increased udnerstanding in Electornics & Electrical Wiring, CAD, Mechanical Maintenence and much more. I also feel alot more professional and confident in my ability to tackle tasks on a day to day basis.
I'm proud to say I love my job. I have been given plenty ofgreat opportunities, both for further education and days out / visits to events. Quite often i get to visit schools and host STEM acitivites which gives a real sesne of fulfilment. I wouldn't trade my job for much.
Probably the biggest downside to the programme is that it isn't the most organised. However this could be considered a good thing as it allows for lots of changes and presents lots of opportunites to not follow the norm. There have beem times however where i've jst not been sure what is happening.
The people that work at Leonardo are incredibly supprtive. So many people are happy to mentor and train you to carry out tasks or just assist you with any questions you may have. The supportive and friendly culture is part of what makes Leonardo a really great place to work.
The training provider really hasn't been the best in my opinion. I've been assigned mutliple assessors for my NVQ and each one has slightly changed the work I need to do. I've found myself repeating tasks several times just to suit their personal preferances.
Due to the bed experience with my training provider, I don't feel like the qualfication is helping me but instead hindering me from actualy learning the job as I need to spend so much time filling in the paperwork. Regardless of the qualification, I would still have performd the same learning activites.
Leonardo has an onsite sports, social & carity commitee which are dedicated to delivering a load of event throughout the year. Just this easter we had a huge on site easter egg hunt. I'm also given the opprtunity to go to plenty of careers & network events to advertise Leonardo and meet other people.
Yes
Leonardo is an amazing place to work with an amazing culture on site. The people here are friendly and the company itself presents lot's of opportunties to gain further education and grow.
Leonardo wants people with big aspirations. I would advise that you show off want you want to achieve and what you would like from the company.
