  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I spend Monday-Thursday at IBM as an application consultant and, on Fridays, I attend university. My role is focused on working directly with clients to implement software applications and every morning i have stand-up meetings with my team. I also complete a lot of SAFe and Agile Training.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining this role, I have gained a lot of new and useful tech/software skills and I have become much better at communicating with people. I have also significantly improved my time manaagement skills, which is important given that I balance university with work and have strict deadlines!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I'm thoroughly enjoying the programme so far. I get a lot of support from my colleagues/managers and everyone at my company is incredibly friendly. I love the idea of being able to study and work, at the same time, and see my uni knowledge be applied to work!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured significantly well. I spend 80% of the week at work, picking up useful skills and spend the remaining 20% at uni, grasping the fundamentals of technology. My uni schedule is incredibly flexible and takes into consideration that I also work too.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Like I mentioned earlier, I recieve a lot of support from my employer. Everyone is looking for me to do well and I'm always being encouraged to try my best. People are particularly understanding of the fact that I'm still quite new to all of this and they try their best to support me, with no judgements whatsoever.

  • I receieve quite a bit of support. They are always on hand to help me.

  • It gives me a lot of theoretical knowledge that I can apply into work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes! People are always promoting work socials- we are never short of them! They are very inclusive too!

  • Yes

  • They are a great company with great values and they truly value their employees. I feel very appreciated at work!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • The application process may feel a bit long and tedious but its so important that you stay focused and determined as it will all pay off in the end. Working for IBM is incredibly rewarding. There's not too much focus about your grades, they want to get to know you as an individual so just make sure that you're always being yourself!
