My Day to day responsibilities involve going onto site and checking the Rebar and quality of works which are being carried out by the sub-contractor i also check health and safety and ensure all workers have full PPE on and are following required standards. When in the office i manage 2 packages so email back and forward with subcontractors about the required package.
Yes i have learnt all my engineering and construction knowledge whilst on my apprenticeship as you are treated as a professional in the industry and end up carrying out the same job tasks as those who are fully qualified however, they will just check to ensure your work is completed to a high stranded until you are comfortable with not needing works checked.
I do really enjoy my apprenticeship although at times i feel the hours are very long and i don't have a huge amount of time to myself i know that it will be worth it once i completed my apprenticeship as i will be comfortable carrying out the job role and being fully qualified as i have had 5 years experience and have been supported throughout by heavily experienced individuals.
the apprenticeship is well organised, all required and necessary external training is provided a whole apprenticeship HR team are dedicated to supporting all the apprentices and helping us set up training or site visits if we require. having the HR apprenticeship team means we always had apprentice events and socials organised
i receive a good amount of support from my employer i have a great network of colleagues who are more than happy to assist me or answer any questions i have. i never feel alone and over responsible as there is always someone behind checking up or asking how its going with work progress.
My training provider is supportive we are allocated an individual from the university who is always checking up on us and our progress/ attendance at university. We also have quarterly meetings with our training provider and line manager to check that work load is adequate and to ensure we have enough time to get on with ICE chartership work and uni work as well as our day job responsibilities.
University has supported my technical knowledge to a degree however due to the learning taking place one day per week it means a lot of knowledge is crammed into one day and can easily be forgotten. i can confidently say i have learnt 97 percent of my knowledge whilst at work carrying out my job role.
Yes we have socials and group training every few months which is great as it means you can discuss experiences with people on the same apprenticeship programme with you. The training sessions are useful as they cover subjects such as time management, presenting presentations confidently and personal mental health training sessions.
Yes
i would recommend Mace to a freind as the pay for apprentices is great as it goes up each year and is a reasonable amount which also includes an untaxed travel allowance to cover your travel into the office/site. The support from the company as a whole is great and the atmosphere in the site offices are very welcoming and friendly.
I would advice anyone applying for Mace to get as much work experience in the industry as possible and to understand the projects which we have completed in the past and which ones of these are your favorite and why as this shows the company you are interested and have done your research.
