My day to day role consists of using SAP and other databases to find and book on to jobs, retrieve documents relating to the job and then completing the task to the specifications listed in the documentation. As I work on a variety of projects this also involves communicating with varies other teams to confirm job specifications and timescales for completion.
Throughout the appenticeship scheme I have developed a broad range of general engineering and manufacturing skills as well as earning SVQ qualifications. most skills have been developed on the job and include soldering and electronic work, machining and fitting and basic testing of equipment. I have also completed various courses for safe working i.e manaul handling, FOD and ESD.
I would say the programme has been very enjoyable, particularly in the final year as I am trusted to work on live projects and have increased responsibility that has come with experience. All colleaugues I have worked with have been extremely helpful and pushed me to further develop my skills.
Due to COVID the programme has not run in the manor it usually would, however, the basic structure of rotational placements before a final placement was still mostly followed. Some trianing and induction programmes had to be carried out in different way or were not carried out and this left some gaps in knowledge that needed to be filled.
I receive constant support from the apprentice management team with bi-weekly check up meeting and quarterly progress review meetings as well as other contact as and when it is required. I also receive support from my area manager who continues to push for further training and develoment for myself. Both of the above are my main points of contact for support but I can also speak to the other apprentices in regards to less formal issues.
I feel that i recieved adequate support from the college throughout my course and there was a variety of extra classes that could be attended fo those that required the extra support. The attitude of lectures was positive and they were more than happy to help us navigate through the course with minimal isues.
I feel that the qualification is loosely relevant to the role that I perform but does offer a good starting point fo all appentices to build upon. A slightly more target and specific course may however benefit the company and apprentices as more business and job specific course work would be helpful.
There are a variety of different extra curicular activities especially within the apprentice community. The apprentice group has an events group that organise different nights out throughout the year.
Yes
Good apprenticeship scheme with great benefits, great comapny to work for with a variety of different jobs and the ability to move within the company to a role that suits each individual. There is also good routes for progress as an apprentice which are fully suppored by the apprentice managment team and the wider company.
Research the company and gain as much knoweldge about the differnt products and general business of leonardo to show eagerness in interview stage and if accepted this knowledge will be helpful as you begin to learn more about the company throug hthe scheme with hands on learning and further training
