Monday-Wednesday I work in the department and Thursday-Friday I work on my uiversity studies. Day to day in department includes 90% desk work, working on and preparing technical documentation requied for design reviews. There is by-daily progress meetings to ensure everyone is on track with their work in department and you can also ask for support at the meeting.
I have learned to prepare technical documentation. I have learned to communicate and delegate work to appretnices in the department. I have developed my strategic thinking to make sure I do not loose sight of the bigger picture. Professionally I have developed my presentation skills and confidence for giving design review presentations.
I enjoy that I get to come in everyday and contribute to a bigger picture in the company. I have earned the repsonsibility to work on tasks independently and I take pride in that. I enjoy when I am on multiple different projects, and larn about the nuances of the different projects. However, the university projects have been hellish and I have struggled to keep my sanity as my third year project was rubbish and my 4th year project was cancelled. Luckily everyone has been very supportive which has been great.
My programme is very structured. It started with a clear paln on the departments I would visit and when it came to final departments the choices and process was clearly communicated. There is a lot of turnover with the apprentice management team, and the effect of this is clear when I speak to the younger apprentices as it feels like there apprenticeships aren't as clearly structured following from the chaos of the pandemic and the staff turnover.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. They are fantastic with supporting me in the department and with the appretniceship scheme. They are proactive and encouraging when it concerns my development. Any extra curricular events are supported amazingly by the employer too, so I really have no complaints.
I recieve support from my employer whenever necessary for my qualifications. The structure and communication is in place for me to follow the process to get my qualifications, however whenever I need support I can get it easily by asking for help. This has been consistent in both the apprenticeships I have done.
The qualification doesn't really help me in my role too much. There are skills and knowledge I have gained that have helped in my role but those haven't been gained from the uni degree. The university degree really doesn't correlate to the work I do in the department. The saving grace is the IENg work I need to complete as part of my degree, which corrrelates to the careeer progression framework in the department
There are many I have been involved in. Football, payday lunches, social nights, professional networking events and groups offered in the apprenticeship network. These have been very good for meeting other apprentices and for networking. The apprenticeship formerly supported a lot more professional networking groups, with all of the turnover they havent really kicked backup.
Yes
great benefits for working here, top of the line products in the world, be the best at what you can be, great career progression, plenty of internal vacancies if you fancy something different, great people, defined career progression frameworks, clear pay family frameworks and there is a tonne of extra benefits on the benefits portal
tips i have for applying is do you have a passion for doing your best, if not then it probably isnt for them. Same goes for an intrest in aviation. I would give advice in the form of preparing for competency based interview questions. I would encourage people to be active outside of work, as the stress inside of work can become too much if you are a slouch outside of it. Can quickly impact social life if you have no balance. I'd also encourage people to highlight what they bring to a team, make sure to communicate that
