  • As HR Apprentice, I manage absence management, short term absence, long term, data analysis, key insights. I manage payroll on site and complete on a monthly basis. I am involved in managing disciplinaries and grievances. I work with key internal stakeholders.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a range of new skills - Business Admin Level 3, HR Management CIPD Level 5 Diploma. Learnt how to manage ER cases, learnt payroll skills. Learnt new databases, e.g. workday, open options. Developed existing skills - Excel skills, communication skills. Relationship management.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The team I work in are very supportive and lovely. I enjoy the work I do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction structured well, 2 week induction plan shadowing colleagues. Receive 1 day off the job a week for my qualification, split into 2 half days which helps immensely. Support meetings with tutor every 4-6 weeks. A catch up with line manager once a week.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Manager - excellent support we meet every week for a catch up on workload etc, and once a month for a longer meeting relating to my studies, next steps etc. Good accessibility of support, occupational health, employee assistance programme etc.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Regular calls with tutor every 4-6 week depending. Can ask questions at any time. Excellent support from my tutor. Enjoy the qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Theory I have learnt has enabled me to get involved in more tasks at work, for example, restructuring programmes, embedding my learning of employee engagement. I know more about the job and industry from completing my qualification,

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Good support network, progression in certain roles depending on the department you work in. For HR at Leeds, not good progression to stay within the company in HR but an excellent foundation to progress in another company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • Research Unilever, think outside the box when researching the company. Assessment days - be prepared, positive and show you are forward thinking.
