I applied for the position as a ground floor team member in may of last year. My role is to deliver the best guest experience I can offer. During a morning shift I will arrive at 6.30am and begin the breakfast shift, aiming to have as many covers as half the guest list within our hotel. The manager on shift will cover the reception area and answer the phone. When breakfast is over at around 10.30am and I have finished the clean down, I will then open the bar area for the next team member to take over. Within my hotel the staff changeover is at 3pm. Dinner starts at 6pm and check ins begin at 3pm. This can sometimes be challenging but it is a part of my role. The day ends at 10pm when the nights take over.
Throughout my journey at Premier inn I have been regularly pushed for higher positions within the company. I am currently studying my level 2 hospitality apprenticeship course and I feel confident that will feel more comfortable in my role at the end of this. We also have regular training on academy online..
I feel everyone should take part in the apprenticeship programme either for their company or to help them grow as an individual. I have learnt a variety of skills which I have then used within my workplace. At the beginning of the program I felt unsure, this is due to only being in the company three short months before I began. Within my first month of working for the company all the management and supervisors left so I had little to no training at all. This course helped change my perspective and gain my confidence in the workplace.
I felt uncertain at the beginning of the program due to change of tutors so early on. I redid some studying on things I had already done but it settled after a couple of weeks.
I get a lot of support from my tutor within the programme to help with revision and any queries I may have. I have monthly chats with my mentor and manager. If I were to have any general issues with the programme I would contact my tutor.
I get regular advise and guidance from my training provider. If I were to have any issues revolving around any essays and such, I would be able to contact her.
I had next to no experience when I started at premier inn last year. Mostly due to no management. This programme has helped me understand how to answer day to day questions to guests and feel overall more confident in working in the role. I have put all my theory into practice and I am able to be left on my own to deal with customer queries. All of my learning came from this programme.
None that I am aware of. When I am not working I attend various martial art classes, the gym and I travel within the UK when restrictions are not in place.
No
Until management is under better construction and employees are more stable then I would not recommend it. Within my year at this company I am unable to give an accurate number of people who have left. I wish to stay within the company so that I can represent my employees and give better management so that I can meet their needs.
Be open and understanding. Every shift is completely different and ask as many questions as you can.
