I'm a crew member so this involves serving customers through either the drive thru or at the front counter, i also am trained to work in the kitchen so my station varies on a daily basis. My goal is to aim to provide a fast and friendly service, providing gold standard food while sticking to food safety regulations.
I am now trained in the kitchen which i wasn't before and am now fully rotational. I've also learnt how to train people and gain some leadership skills as having the knowledge of every station meant i can pass this on to new staff members and mentor them.
I really enjoyed the programme, i think it has really made me develop my confidence at work and has given me goals to work towards to help my progression. I am hoping to move on to the level 3 programme with the company because i appreciate the opportunity to come out with such great qualifications that i can take with me throughout my career
Lifetime is a great training provider and every coach i've had while studying with them have always been organised and very helpful if i ever needed anything so i have no complaints with them. However my store didn't often keep on top of giving me time for my apprenticeship while on shift so i had to do a lot of my work at home or constantly ask for apprenticeship time which is something i wish i didn't have to chase up so much.
My employer was aware i was on the apprenticeship programme however not every manager knew this, they didn't often schedule me shifts to do my apprenticeship work so i had to nag for it a lot or just get on with it at home. However they did always accommodate me when i mentioned my scheduled meetings with my learning coach.
Lifetime training were amazing, i had multiple learning coaches during the programme and each one have expressed how easy it is to contact them if i ever had questions, if anything came up that would affect our scheduled meeting it could easily be rescheduled and they were very understanding. They always made sure i was well prepared for EPA well before the deadlines and I had their contact numbers and email address if i needed to speak to them in between meetings.
I feel like i'm much more knowledgeable of the importance of food safety, customer service and the hospitality industry as a whole after doing this apprenticeship. It has made me take my job more seriously and be more motivated to work, it has also made me consider the possibilities of job progression or other avenues within the hospitality industry. I definitely see myself persuing a career in hospitality now that i've done this apprenticeship whereas before i was maybe a bit unmotivated with my job.
Yes we currently have the McCup tournament which is a football tournament between other mcdonalds stores, there's male and female teams. We also usually have a love where you live event which might involve litter picking around the local area, or sometimes we put on fundraising activities for the RMHC which is a charity McDonald's sponsors.
Yes
McDonald's is a great employer who give people a chance and offer apprenticeships and career progression to those who are interested. I know lots of people who start at McDonald's as a shy person but eventually come out of their shell. I have made so many friends during my time there and i love the social aspect of coming to work and i have fun every shift which is what makes the job enjoyable for me. I definitely would recommend someone work at mcdonalds if they want somewhere fun to work
I would say to just do your best and be willing to learn. McDonald's can be a hard job sometimes as it requires you to cope with stress and a busy workload as well as working as a team and dealing with customers, all of which might be someones first ever job. It's okay if none of this comes perfectly on the first shift but practise and a willingness to learn how to perfect these skills will be invaluable skills.
