  • Drafting planning documents, conducting research to support more senior members of the team, working in multi-disciplinary teams, attending meetings with clients and other consultants

  • Yes, I have significantly broadened my planning knowledge and gained confidence speaking knowledgeably on planning matters. I have also strengthened my IT skills, in particular with the Microsoft Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud (with my University work).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my work a lot as the environment is stimulating and engaging and you gain a lot of experience from the beginning. The planning department is also very welcoming and supportive, which is especially appreciated when you are starting out in your career.

  • The programme is well structured. Support is provided from both the University and Work.

  • I receive great support from my employer and they provide a good range of experience to help me achieve the RTPI competencies.

  • I receive good support from my training provider, but there could be better communication in some areas and better access to required software.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It provides excellent support in helping me to practically perform better in my role. It provides relevant insight into appropriate planning law and provides an opportunity to trial planning process outside of the work environment. I have also gained insight into urban design, which helps me to consider planning issues from a different perspective.

  • Yes, there are lots of extra-curricular activities, such as netball and football teams. There are also plenty of professional networking events.
