  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As the People Manager for four McDonalds stores, I monitor the recruitment process ensuring that we have enough staff throughout the business. I support our business manager on all matters people related, giving advice on HR issues and disciplinary matters. I report back statistics to operations manager and Franchisee, keeping them up to date on any progress/issues that occur

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt so much from completing the apprenticeship. Before, I used to follow the policies the company set but since completing the units, I understand the reasons behind the way we do things and also the importance of ensuring that all managers are following them too. I have gained so much confidence throughout the process and feel that I can deliver my job role to a much higher standard now

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the units that were set for us and gained a wealth of knowledge from them. I have never been a great academic, so the though of completing assignments was very daunting to me. I shouldn't have worried though, the support was fantastic and there were always opportunities to ask queations

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship was really well structured, with lots of time given in advance of online tutoring sessions making it easy to add them into my calendar. Everything was recorded, so I could return to the learning if I wasnt more clarification on anything. Unfortunately, throughout my apprenticeship my tutor changed 3 times. I found that this was slightly unsettling, as you get used to the way once tutor teaches and then it changes. On the whole, all the tutors were good though.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received so much support from my operations manager. He allowed me a day a week to complete the learning and write up my assignments if needed. He helped me out if I was ever stuck on a unit, offering advice and his support. Couldn't of asked for more.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider offered so much support. There was always tutoring sessions throughout each unit, where you could ask questions if needed. If I was ever stuck or needed advice away from the sessions, I could email them and they would reply quickly with what I needed. They were amazing!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have built up so much confidence through the apprenticeship programme. Having a good understanding of the recruitment, policies and all the other things that i have learnt, has meant that I can answer queries and offer advise, giving the correct answers. I can explain what they need to know with confidence and clarity.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As part of our McDonalds groups, each store has at lease two crew events each year. These are open to all crew and managers from the store, to allow some time for team building and having fun outside the work place. As a company, we offer employee discounts for gyms and days out that the employees can make use off.

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • McDonalds is a great place to work. I began working here when I was 16 as a part time job during college. I had no aspirations to stay working there for very long. 17 years later, I am still here! The people I work with are amazing, there is a wealth of culture with staff from all backgrounds. I have progressed up through the business, being an assistant manager for a number of years before i become the people manager within the group. The possibilities for progression are endless within McDonalds.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • Just be yourself. At McDonalds, we value everyone's individuality and we will accept you for who you are. We would much prefer you to show us your personality throughout the interviewing process instead of what you think we are looking for. All we want, is someone with a willingness to work and a great attiude.
