  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes overseeing recruitment and induction for the company and working closely with a team of 3 to tackle all HR and people related matters for approximately 1150 employees, whilst supporting our senior management team and line managers. I also oversee training, recognition and reward as well as administration of performance reviews and pay rates.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Completing my qualification helped me to develop my report writing and presentational skills. In particular working to set word counts has enabled me to get much better at writing effectively to achieve set objectives in a concise manner. I've improved at working to set deadlines and timescales when completing projects.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Overall the experience was very enjoyable. My learning journey started pre-Covid and was impacted by the pandemic, however any changes that were needed as a result were managed very well and the disruption was minimal. I would recommend the Level 3 HR support qualification and I am looking at moving on to the Level 5 later this year.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was very organised in terms of being broken down into modules leading up to a final project, each with a set timescale and deadline. The assessments were broken down with easy to follow instructions and criteria, with online learning to support the course material. Support was available throughout the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line managers were fully supportive of my completion of the Level 3 qualification and I was given a lot of freedom and flexibility to manager the programme around my normal workload. I had plenty of time allocated for study and assignment completion and have been encouraged to move on to the Level 5 apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Plenty of support is available throughout the programme, from having an assigned Learning and Development Coach to the tutors conducting the online learning and support sessions. Help is also available by emailing the training providers and everyone is always happy to help and in a timely manner to answer questions or address concerns.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Completing the qualification has definitely had a significant impact on broadening my HR knowledge and confidence on subject matter. It has allowed me to deliver a better level of service in my job role and help develop the support team I work with and also enhance the knowledge of our line managers.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • This is an opportunity area for the organisation I work for. We hold events reasonably regularly, but I am working to spread these events out more throughout the year and also make them as inclusive as possible. Taking feedback from our teams and whilst holding events is helpful to improve future offerings.

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I've worked for the company for 26 years now and have held a variety of job roles across the years and also been fortunate enough to spend 5 years working in the United States. Building a successful and interesting career is something that anyone can achieve with McDonald's and there are plenty of challenges and opportunities to thrive on.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • Being open to challenges and adaptable to change I think is key to having a successful time at McDonald's as there have been a lot of developments and exciting challenges in my time with the company. There is also always something new to learn, so being keen and positive is vital.
