  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in HR Services for our UK team. In my role I work on initiatives to improve experience for managers and employees as well as for our teams on the processes we oversee. I also provide support to our offshore team and work on projects to transition work from our UK based teams to our offshore teams

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained many new skills in both my role and also by completing the CIPD level 3 Foundation Certificate in HR Practice. In my role I have had to adopt an agile approach to delivering on my projects which meant I had to learn agile methodologies and tools. I now actively use these when working on my improvements. I also gained knowledge on the course in areas that I do not have experience in such as L&D, data, performance management. It has also made me more aware of my position within the organisation being able to understand more about how my role feeds into the goals, purpose, strategy set at organisation level

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am very thankful that my organisation was able to provide me with the opportunity to do this course. I learnt so much from it and it built my confidence and improved my knowledge of the wider HR department and roles. The online course was good, with live session which i really enjoyed, a tutor to guide you through and keep you on track, lots of learning material. I will not lie and say I found it a breeze - it was very hard but rewarding once completed!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was really well organised. From the off there were welcome meetings which explained the plan. the online material was set up in weeks so keep you on track so a timeline was already established to complete each of the activities. Live sessions were held mid way through each unit and then again towards the end of each - this was good to make sure you were on track and also to listen to other ideas from people in a group. there was a natural flow through the units to the end point - the assessment. Having a coach to guide through the final part (and all through the course) was good

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I had 3 different managers during my time on the course - but all were very supportive in ensuring I was able to complete the course to the best of my ability. They made sure I had my 20% time off for the course, were available to support me if i wanted to talk through anything and also worked through my PDP with me and helped me select my EPA project to work on

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from the live sessions really helped. it was quite detailed and walked through the unit criteria. In addition to this you could post messages on a online board to get feedback from tutors who were also contactable by email. Having an LDC coach whom I had monthly 121's helped to ensure I was understanding and developing while working through the course content

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The course has embedded my understanding of my role within the organisation and broadened my knowledge and skills on other areas within HR. Our company is big on growth and learning and I have suggested that within the team we use an approach like the CIPD professional map to help people understand the skills they need to develop to grow in their role. I also use some of the planning techniques I leant from the course to prioritise my workload.
