  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am responsible for some apprenticeship programmes and graduate programmes at British Airways. I develop the learning and strucuture of programmes workting with internal and external stakeholders. Coaching grads and apprentices and supporting them to acheive goals. I plan and carry out recruitment , assessment, induction and plan and facilitate activities, functions and meetings to develop and support our programmes.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have developed skills in managing stakeholders, learning design how to implement theories and methods in L&D into workplace settings. I have developed time management and to communicate effectively to influence and persuade senior leaders and colleagues. I have leart more about hte business and the skills to build networks necessary for the role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I relaly enjoy the apprenticeship. It is a really good programme that has helped me to put together my own knowledge and skills into the context of an L&D framework that really supports how I can do my job effectively and productively. I enjoy learning and ht econtent is goo and the on the job learning aligns to off the job learning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is really well structured. The apprenticeship aligns well to my job and the types of experience and work I need to do to support my learning and development to acheive the skills, knowledge and behaviours in the apprenticeship and in my role. I get expereince and eposure to the things I need to do and know.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support. My manager advises me and connects me to the right people to support my learning. Colleagues are also really supportive to enable learning and shadow time as well as explaining their roles related to learning on the programme. Our senior managers are v supportive of apprenticeships and there is a big emphasis on colleague development.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots of support. We have regular meetings, they coach and set SMART targets. My coach is fun and relatable and always tries to encourage me to push forward when priorities can be challenging with work load. Feedback from assignments is good and they are helpful whenever we ask questions. content is good too.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Yeah the qualification is really good for my role. It supports what I am doing day to day but has also enabled me to learn and put into practice sector standards aproaches and methods. I have utilised the learning from my qualification and it has taken my understanding of how to do the role forward.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to covid there hasn't been as many opportunities. But there are football teams, AmDram, various societies and we are encouraged to network and attend events. We are given autonomy. We do a lot of charoty work as an organisation and there are often opportunities to support events and activities.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is an organisation with huge amounts of opportunities for development in job roles. It is such a large organisation that there are opportunities to work in a huge variety of job roles and department and across department. There is a strong focus on people development and it is an exciting industry that is always needs to innovate.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
  • Have a cutomer and colleague centric approach. Try to understand our business in terms of our product, service and values. Think about how we differentiate ourselves. Be prepared to work heard and be flexible as we often need to be agile in how we work. Priorities can change and we need to be reactive to is. It is a great organisation with a lot of opportunities in an exciting sector.
