My role as the academy's facilities manager is to make sure we have a safe functioning building for students, staff and visitors. I manage the estates maintenance and cleaning teams as well as all contractors on site that carry out ppm's, call outs and remedial works. I manage all of the statutory compliance for the site too.
New skills I have learnt on the job are that I know manage all of the statutory compliance for the site. i deal with finance a lot more now, so I raise purchase orders and pay for invoices weekly, i also buy a lot of supplies the maintenance of the building. i handle all contractor quotes for the schools needs.
I enjoyed the learning a knowledge side of the programme. it was a bumpy start to the apprenticeship as we had three different tutors in the first six months which didn't help me as a new apprentice. there wasn't any face to face learning due to covid, this resulted in a lot of the staff on the course dropped out.
I found that I was chasing the tutors for information a lot all through the course, I wasn't shown how to use the smart assessor training and the first tutor didn't understand it either and never got back to me, at this point a lot of people considered dropping out of the course.
My employer was very supportive in allowing me an hour a day to research for my course work and work on my assignments.
This course was very much a do it yourself qualification. Very little support for the first six months with changing tutors three times. When Colin Wilson took over tutoring me i felt better and more settled in preparation for exams.
This course has definitely helped me in terms of knowledge on finance, management and health and safety. It has prepared me for my role manging a large complex building and estates staff.
Yes, there is staff football on a Friday after school.
Yes
On the whole its been a good course for me to learn from, but that's only because I was willing to push past all the issues to do with the LMP
There is a lot of chasing for updates and do it your self is a must if you want to pass the course.
