  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Site lead role with a team of 38 operatives, covering Security / Weighbridge Operatives, cleaning operatives, jetters, electricians, amenities cleaners. Cover all operations of the site facilities team - HR, planning, compliance, contractor management, organisational structure, budget control.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, the course has widen my experience and knowledge of different FM environments and how things could apply differently in FM depending on sector. Looking into budgets has been helpful for me current role and learnt me to question detail and also the mechanical and H&S aspects of learning.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It has been a very enjoyable programme and a break from day to day operations to apply learning and knowledge to a practical role which I have learnt on the job, so to speak. I am keen to continuously develop and this has supported his in the area of FM.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well with a very supportive assigned tutor who was consistent throughout and good support from the central ream in set up and admin. Felt I could work to my own needs and that support was there when needed. My learning was all through COVID so all online structured, which was fine for me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Consistent and constant support. Given the authority to plan own learning and space to do this. Trusted to complete with time away from the office planned to my needs.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A good consistent tutor who remained for the 2 years. He planned sessions and understood my time constraints and work pressures with a promotion and greater job role taken on during my course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Has given me a greater insight to areas covered, such as H&S, Finance, People development, Mechanical, Compliance etc. Instead of it just being of what I had learned myself in a practicable job role I have the background to this now and the theory.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • EMCOR UK promote networking events for groups I am involved in such as Creating Balance. We also have a Connect group to share on and at site are involved in local activities such as the village fetes, charity fundraising, local fitness group and local grounds maintenance.

  • Yes

  • Yes, well structured and clear in guidance to complete. Liked the online portal structure and uploading aspect.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EMCOR?
  • Keep to planning and time structure to support development and learning. Use the tutor for support.
