I work in the Glasgow Property Management team and therefore deal with a variety of different commercial properties each day. An essential aspect of the role is being in frequent discussion with various tenants and clients across our management portfolios and ensuring that each of the properties are running smoothly and any unforeseen circumstances are handled as quickly as possible.
I have been in this role for over half a year and I still find myself learning new things each day while at work. I have been able to further develop skills such as IT skills, adapting to new systems, and my interpersonal skills by conversing with any tenants and clients.
The best part about the programme is that no two days are the same and you can never know what to expect. I am starting to find that certain tasks are becoming second nature to me and every single day I can carry out new tasks and create new experiences. I very much enjoy my current role and I am looking forward to further developing my knowledge and skills.
I'd say that the programme is well organised as my development is not strictly reliant on myself or one other member of the team. The property management team in Glasgow are very close-knit and I know that if ever I have any queries or need some tasks to help out with, I can ask any member of the team.
My employer is extremely supportive in all aspects. As someone who had no prior experience in this sector I often worried about asking silly questions. I now feel comfortable that I can ask anyone within the team as I know they are willing to support me with whatever issues I may face. The company are great with apprentices and are always keeping in touch and checking up to see how things are going as well as providing a range of great benefits and reimbursement for work costs etc.
The university training segment of my role has been excellent so far. until recently it was an online based course due to COVID-19 however more recently we have been able to go into the campus for lectures etc. We are able to reach out to the module leaders via email at any time and they are usually helpful in their response. Sometimes myself and fellow apprentices find that we are given information on rather short notice however the university have been great as a whole.
Some areas of the qualification definitely help within my role more than others. When I first started my role, the basics had all been well explained during the university module and this helped me better understand certain aspects of the role. Other aspects of the qualification apply to different professions and therefore are not relevant to my role however this is to be expected with any course.
Both within the property management team and through the business as a whole, there are a number of events, conferences and outings etc to partake in. These are always enjoyable as it is helpful for someone in an apprenticeship role to understand the views of more experienced members of the team and also provides the opportunity to network with others in a position similar to yours.

Savills is a huge business with a fantastic reputation and the moment you are welcomed in the door it is easy to understand why. The business have a range of different events, training courses and more that young apprentices can attend to give them the experience they will need going forward. Everyone within the team and business in general are extremely friendly and welcoming and of course there are a range of great employee benefits.
It is important to understand the values of the business and the magnitude of the Savills name. I found that the application process was extremely smooth and at no point did I feel like I wasn't being myself or that I was under pressure. As someone with no prior experience or knowledge of real estate I felt instantly welcomed and was not afraid to ask questions throughout the application.
