I'm a full time bus driver which includes driving in and around town, picking up and dropping off customers, keeping myself and my customers safe at all times. Ensuring my vehicle is safe, secure and runs on time if its physically possible. If busy still providing a service politely and professionally at all times.
I have learnt all in town routes as well as multiple school runs and some out of town routes. I have done a few different training courses including NDTP and CPC courses. I have being trained by stagecoach which included my driving tests and theory tests. I have learnt multiple things since starting stagecoach and i'm more comfortable working on my own as a result of this.
I am enjoying the job as a whole, the staff are friendly and polite and if you ever need help they will be there if needed. We work really well as a team which is shown especially when so short staffed. Every day is different which is nice as its not the same things different days.
Induction is good and well planned out and can be long but very formal and a lot of information to take in which is helpful to know what you're getting into. The training is full on when you're licence comes through but also very quick. As a whole it is very well organised and works well.
The management team when I started is different now but the team that's there now are very good, understanding, polite, helpful and understanding which makes it all worth it. I had 6 different mentors but the one i had for a full week was really goo and he helped me learn some routes and how to take some corners in the busses.
It can be abit on and off as it feels like there isn't much training as in classes but this may be down to covid and when i started they had stopped all training and courses and are now looking at starting them again so i can't honestly say at this point how good or bad it is. And no I don't like this training as i work 40+ hrs a week and busy as it is
It doesn't. By the time I had actual training I had already being driving on my own for a while and knew most of the things already. I've had 2 audio assessments so far and maybe starting in class lessons for my maths. So hopefully it'll all work out.
Some staff do things to raise money for charity such as walks, swims.. etc. We do xmas jumpers at christmas and pay a donation per day to a charity to help spred the christmas cheer. I think theres a football team for stagecoach but not sure if its running again yet.
Yes
Its a good overall job, good pay, great staff, make some amazing connections and friendships. There are some amazing opportunities such as the commen wealth games. There are options to move up either to leading driver, management, green road manager or even be apart of the union and help others.
If you want to apply PLEASE make sure to have your provisional cat D and D1 already online and in your hand. Go for the interview and do the assessment but when accepted save yourself the stress and worry and tell them you will start when its all come back. Its the quickest and best way to do it
