On a day to day basis I will shadow technicians and learn the maintenance activity's they undergo. This means everyday is different and can lead to some challenges of not knowing what the next problem will be. There is also the college work to do on the side off the day to day work.
I have learnt new skills while being an apprentice as I shadow and do the job role, these skills vary between mechanical and electrical depending on what happens on any given day. I have also got qualification through the apprenticeship which allow me to prove the skills and knowledge that has been learnt
The programme is enjoyable as I take on different task each day so there is always something new to challenge myself with. However if everything is running you can have some slow days which aren't as enjoyable but that's part of manufacturing, so isn't a bad thing.
Fairly structured but the company can change you to meet there needs so the structure kind of goes where ever it needs to if that happens. This can be good as it opens different doors but also bad if you was looking forward to placements but they no longer need you there.
I receive support in the forms of meetings to let employer know of any concerns and can always talk to someone if there was a problem. There could be more support with the college work however to allow time to complete it as its just expected you do it all in your own time but this can add up while working in the company as well.
They give you the day at college to learn the work and also check in to make sure everything is going okay, if you have any problems you can let them know and they will do there best to see if anything can be done. There is no time given outside of the college day however so you do need to work in your spare time which is a lot. The course is enjoyable however and you will come out of it with the qualification you wanted.
The qualification comes in handy with the theory side of things and gives knowledge of engineering environments and components which is always useful. You don't use the theory side however in day to day role much but it is always good to know in case you ever did need too.
I have seen a few things pop up, these extra activities normally cost however and are not well advertised. I don't know if this is because of covid or the company just doesn't need many sports. I'm sure if you had ideas though they could be put forward and maybe the company would take them on.
Yes
Its a good apprenticeship to have on your CV, you get your education and the knowledge from doing the job role. The pay is good for an apprentice and you can get a lot out of it. You are almost guaranteed a job at the end of it and you can be set up for life from it.
Just be yourself, relax when doing any assessment days or interviews. There not looking for someone who knows it all, its someone who is willing to learn so show them that you are capable of that and seem interested in the company and what is has to offer you or what you have to offer them.
