Daily, I work on multiple different tasks. From bridge inspections and subsequent reporting (for both general, principal and inspection for assessments) to CAD (computer aided design using a number of 2D and 3D softwares including C3D, Revit, Autocad and design calculations (initially for smaller thing such as OCS columns, with the hope of progressing onto bridges).
I was completely new to civil engineering so I have learned so much. Specifically, at Mott mac as we are so global and wind ranging, the multitude of different disciplines means that I can gain experience of knowledge in many different areas. Inspection and reporting, CAD and cals were all new skills to me!
The programme is good because of the combination between work and uni and how the learnings compliment each other. Although it can be hard work and long hours, the support and advantage of having on the job learning experience with skilled professions i feel will be invaluable in the future.
Motts has a good system in place as well as a dedicated support network for ECP's (early career professional). This means that there is a number of different online professional skills and networking webinars, in addition to the day to day support being there and easy to access as and when you require it.
Motts have been very support of me thus far. Not only with a number of colleague being patient and super helpful in teaching me new skills. but also having a good balance of the wider understanding on both my programme (and the variety of work I require to complete it).
A good amount. They are very support and patient when it comes to me progressing. I also feel like all of the people I take to are very knowledgeable and if they cannot provide the help, they will know who can. This means that I never feel like i cant reach out.
The qualification and work compliment each other greatly. I find overlap both ways, which allows me a serious advantage both at work and at uni. When i can see concepts I have learned at uni explored in the real world and work place, it gives real value and provides motivation.
There are a lot of extra-curricular activities at work which range from simply lunch-time presentations, ECP events, national sports days and office drinks after work. Not only do I feel these events are well organised and run, but junior members of staff and actively encouraged to attend frequently, so i feel welcome.
Yes
I I think MM is well run, and the scale allows for a very supportive journey through my apprenticeship journey. The vast array of persons, knowledge and diverse projects mean that work is both interesting and also provides me with an excellent learning opportunity especially at the start of my career.
