  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The general overview of my role is that I work as a data analyst or business analyst in my team in charge of KPI's and Reporting. KPI's are key performance indicators and allow us to see the progress the team is making in actual metrics. The key KPI we currently use are project feedback and my job is to take this and make it understandable for the wider team and senior management. Reporting involves me using different software such as Excel or PowerBI to produce visualizations and reports to make various tasks easier.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many new skills in my job role and developed existing skills as well. The skills that I have learned involve using VBA to create macros for report automation in order to make the addition of new report data easier. Another skill I have learned in creating dashboards and visualizations in PowerBI. I have also been give the chance and encouraged to develop my soft skills and people skills as well.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy my programme and the job which I am doing inside Vodafone. The work that I do on a daily basis is enjoyable and never too heavy or light. My team is friendly and always on hand for any help should I require it. The company encourages you to feel comfortable in your role and not to be afraid to make mistakes.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is fairly well structured but could improve slightly. The positives are the fact that the inducution was well thought out and introduced us to lots of people quickly the support is always available and made clear where to receive it when necessary and the team that I am in make clear my role. However a couple of management changes have sometimes lead the programme to feel a bit disorganized and the previous management didn't always fell receptive to change should you have needed things which were not within their plans.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a high level of support from my employer. My manager is always on hand on teams should I have any general questions and we have a regularly scheduled 1-2-1. I have been given a buddy as well as stream reps who I can go to with any issues and the guidance when a problem arises is very good with options given and people keeping track of the outcomes.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support received from the training provider is very good. They make it clear where to go for the various types of support needed. If it is related to skills such as assignment writing it is made clear that the support lies with the people in charge of the HELM's team. For assignment submissions a formative deadline is given to provide feedback for the overall summative deadline.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Currently I believe this question is hard to answer as the modules that I have completed are general IT modules and so have not related to my role as a Data Analyst directly. In addition to this some of the modules which are not direct data analysis modules have not always made it clear how the module and the work we are doing relates to my role as a data analyst. This may change as the upcoming modules are specific data analysis modules and so may help me to perform my job role better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As the restrictions have recently been lifted we are seeing the group youth committee starting to introduce more and more events which are varied in nature. Some are direct in work related such as office visits and in person career talks and some are out of work related such as social events to get to know more people in the company. Voluntary initiatives are also mentioned and introduced and the different committees to go to for these have been shown during induction.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Vodafone to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Vodafone to a friend if they were specifically partaking in my stream as I believe the support system and correct workload is there as a basis for introduction into a role as a data analyst. Unlike in other companies there is a clear plan of the work you will be doing how this will be done and the skills needed for it. Ultimately it is dependent on the stream and the manager you have but a data analyst role in vodafone is one I would recommend

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vodafone?
  • My advice would be not to focus too much on the previous experience and qualifications you have as while these are good the expectation is not on you to come fully qualified for the role. Instead focus on the other skills like people interaction and having a positive and patient attitude as these will benefit you better when it comes to trying to obtain a role at vodafone and keeping and enjoying the role afterwards
