I work on a variety of projects within a week at Mott Macdonald but I mainly work with BIM software such as Revit or AutoCAD to produce drawings which are then sent out to clients to review for tender or to be used in the construction phase of a project
I have learnt a variety of skills learning how to use BIM software such as Revit and AutoCAD which I use on a daily basis also I have gained various qualifications since being at Mott MacDonald I have a BTEC Diploma, HNC and finally my degree which I finished this year
I enjoy the team that I work with everyone is very professional and friendly there is also a good social environment outside of work which is something I look forward to there is a good office culture and I get on well with everyone and it has exceeded all my expectations
My programme is organised well in some parts the positives are that I get to do my university work one day a week which was helpful and my team was very supportive but when I do project work it can be very laborious as I do the same thing every day and I worked on the same project for 4 years gaining very little experience.
My line manager and mentor are very helpful with work and supporting me in all aspects within work but our HR team is woeful whenever you ask for answers to a question it takes weeks to find out the answer and its very frustrating and needs to be changed as its not good enough for a company size of Mott MacDonald
University was very frustrating I would get one good teacher a term every year the rest where very boring and not engaging just reading off a PowerPoint presentation which to me isn't learning its just reading off a screen and its very hard to get motivated I'm just glad I didn't pay 9k for it. Having said that they do check up on me to see how I am doing with my ICE stuff
I feel like I learn more in work than at university all the stuff I have been taught at university has had no impact on what I do in work on a day to day basis all stuff I learnt at university just seemed pretty pointless to me a lot of it wasn't relevant
yes there are plenty of social events at Mott MacDonald we have fridge Fridays, football, sports day, Christmas do and going out with my social group in work there is a big number of us and we meet up outside of work very frequently there is a big group of us and its expanding very year which is great
Yes
Very recently I did recommend Mott MacDonald to 2 of my friends who studied engineering and asked them to join and submit an application to join one got all the way to being offered a job I told them to join as it has good company values looks after the staff and it has a lot of social events
I would say just be yourself as they should accept you for who you are don't be too clever in the application process try and be relaxed in the interview and do some research on what projects Mott MacDonald has took part in and express an interest in wanting to join
