It is a mixture of training at national grids facilities in eakring, on sire experience and college. On site it involves functional checks of AGI sites, PSSR checks, etc. In college im doing BTEC level 3 in mechanical engineering. At eakring it invloves everything from lerning to use tools correctly, to pipe bending to Breathing Apparatus training.
My social skilss have improved dramatically and my confidence has had a massive boosts. In terms of new skills i have learnt a number of skills when it comes to tools and in the workshop. How to bend pipe, How to build scaffolding. How to use breathing appararus for underground services, etc.
I enjoy my apprenticeship alot. Not only am i on the best apprenticeship in the country and learnignall these new skills that will stay with me for life, but i have also met some absolutley amazing people who i believe will be friends for life.
National grid do there upmost to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and valued in there compnay. I have no problems at national grid and feel i am treated equally to everyone else.
The programme is structured very well. Our timetable that we are given at the beginning of the year has had very few changes to it, so i am able to plan out exactly where i will be and what i need and what i'll be doing for every week.
The trainers are brilliant. They do everything in there power to ensure that we all get the best possible training and get the best out of this oppurtunity.
The support i receive from national grid is second to none. Anything that i need, or any help i may need, and there is a que of people there waiting and willing to help me.
The salary and benefits that national grid offer are incredible. I have absolutely no money issues thanks to national grid.
Yes there are many oppurtunities outside of work.

National grid are investing in the engineers of the future. Therefore they are ensuring that the best possible training is provided by the best trainers available. They offer a well above average salary for an apprenticeship with incredible benefits. Therefore anyone who is interested in becoming an engineer, then there is no place better than national grid.
Just be honest. Dont try and be someone your not just to try and impress. National grid have a comprehensive recruitment process, and if your the right person for the job, National Grid will see that.
