  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I fully enjoy my challenging job, it stretches me and I am learning everyday. I enjoy managine my own work load to ensure the site runs efficiently and safely, I enjoy the team I work with and the site culture on helping each other. For expectations, from coming through the lab pathway I feel the lab apprenticeship is lacking compare to the operational apprenticeship, I felt like I was getting left behind compare to other peers on the same higher apprenticeship programme. However, the lab is a great starting point to build a foundation of knowledge of the asphalt process. For the company culture I think some of the asks are annoying, but overall the company is supporting and encourages learning and development in the work place.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program was organised to a certain degree, the derby uni and the NVQ qualification was excellent. This well organise with the proper support structure. Training, again I felt like I was been left behind coming from the Lab, i wasn't involved with the same training as which the operational apprentices was given. The support was always there when you needed it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the qualification was good as it gave you a foundation of knowledge which you can take back to your site an develop this into detailed site specific knowledge and understanding. The theory learnt during the qualification is used daily, the knowledge gained gives you that extra confidence during your apprenticeshio

  • 9a. Would you recommend Tarmac to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel Tarmac's has great opportunities to learn and is a great place to start your career in the industry. However, I wouldn't recommend Tarmac to a friend.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tarmac?
  • I would ensure your CV reflects you as a person and skills and abilities. I would be questioning in the interviews like it your trying to find out if Tarmac suit YOUR needs not if you suit theirs. The assessment days are important that display all the skills the employer is looking for to ensure you are likely to be the candidate for the job opportunity. Ensure you get a great mentor who is keen to help you and see you/point you in the best way to achieve and learn. I would take every opportunity to learn and develop yourself what Tarmac offer you.
