  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working on projects solo or part of a team, maintaining live services and working on contract. Responsible for conducting daily checks and resolving Incidents as they occur. Some light development work, but mostly only small script changes. Interacting with other teams and sectors occasionally. External collaboration with teams at sister companies.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Plenty of opportunities to develop existing skills and also learn new ones. Completed my ISTQB Foundation certificate in Testing and working towards the advanced level. Taking part in extra activities alongside the Prince's Trust to build confidence and leadership skills, all encouraged by Capgemini. Plenty of chances to shadow team members too.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my job, put the degree apprenticeship is lacking in some areas. I have had no contact with our apprenticeship team since the beginning of last year, my cohort is quite split - with our only interactions taking place during weekly 1 hour lectures which makes group projects more difficult.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As I have stated previously, the programme itself is not very well organised. I do feel that this has not been helped by the lockdown/pandemic as my cohort became the Guinea pig group for virtual degrees. There is an expectation for students to be able to complete module work weekly, without any consideration for our day jobs.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I cannot fault Capgemini's support for me as both an apprentice and as an employee. I have been provided with excellent opportunities for progression and personal development. I believe that any issues that I may face would be dealt with swiftly and with empathy. I have had great mentorship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider does provide support but only if you have a serious problem, with some situations not being deemed 'Exceptional' enough for help. Information can be lacking and not forthright and it does seem, to me at least, that requests from the students are ignored in favour of the module leads ways of doing things.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Before starting my qualification I had only self-taught experience and knowledge of technology. The initial 8 weeks of my degree were honestly the most useful so far, in terms of usefulness to my role. Everything since has not really had much of an impact. Hopefully this will improve with later modules.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a multitude of extra activities to take part in. Including several group networks, Teams sites, and fundraising projects, such as the Prince's Trust Million Makers Initiative. They are not always the easiest to find and get involved with, but once you know where to look, and who to talk to, the opportunities are endless.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • This is honestly the best company and the best job role that I have ever had, in over 10 years of employment. I have never worked for a company that actually believes in and delivers upon its core values. Progression is bountiful, job roles are interchangeable and support is always available.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • Be prepared for a lengthy application process including a full-on assessment day - however definitely go for it! I would have liked to have been told more about the pay progression within the company from the start. Be prepared for a lengthy onboarding process, but it is well worth it in the end!
