  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I often work on PL/SQL developments and cater to client issues and development requests. I monitor how systems are operating and take on a reactive support role, so when something goes wrong with one of the legacy systems, I'm on hand to provide immediate support to the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Every interpersonal skill has been vastly developed, to the point where I am a completely different person to when I first joined. I am considerably more confident in every aspect of life, I can liaise with clients with a high degree of professionalism and I fell comfortable making mistakes, as I now understand that is a part of the learning process.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • With the impact of Covid, the enjoyment has somewhat been hampered, since he social aspect was removed from the equation. Now however, things are getting back to normal and I believe I can make the most of the experience. Social aspects aside, my day to day role is very interesting and enjoyable, and there are plenty of opportunities to effectively work through both uni and my normal job concurrently.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Although there are some teething problems from time to time, the training is still delivered effectively. Since the pandemic forced a radical re-shift in structure, it is understandable to have a lot of "rough around the edges", but overall I have still been able to complete my content with relative ease.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are a set amount of study days we can use for when we need to do study or catch up on work. Capgemini is very understanding when it comes to using these days, and more often than not, co-workers are happy to help if you have any technical questions about the module you're working on.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support is definitely there when it comes to Aston, however there is room for improvement when it comes to urgent queries. It is not common to be waiting days or weeks for a response to something that requires a speedy response. If you plan ahead though and request assistance in a timely manner, the support is definitely there.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Most of the module content I have covered so far hasn't been relevant to my role, however the few that have, have really helped me get a grasp on things. By slowly working through earlier coding modules, it has allowed me to understand basic fundamentals that I have then, built upon enabling me to excel in the role I am currently in.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are opportunities to join a 5-a-side football team with members of our office, and there is always the opportunity for the occasional social outing. The only caveat however is that due to covid, this is a lot less prevalent than it used to be, but I imagine as we transition to normality, this will become more prominent in the future.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As mentioned above, countless skills have been developed which has transformed me as an individual. The opportunities the company offers are endless and the connections you can make can be invaluable to your future career. Not only this, the prospect of a free degree and valuable work experience is an offer not to be passed up.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • Don't think you need to be a techie to apply. I had practically 0 technical knowledge prior to starting, however it was my willingness to learn and attitude that got me the job. As long as you have a genuine drive to learn and succeed, you will flourish here.
