  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role daily, is to report breakdowns on plant equipment and send it off to suppliers. I then also deal with invoice queries which focuses on unpaid invoices and figuring out why they aren’t able to be paid, I then also attend calls with suppliers to discuss unpaid invoices .

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become a lot more skilled with my communication via phones and face to face this is because a lot of my daily tasks is speaking with suppliers and people who work on site, i have also improved my IT skills as i have to use many different systems

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My daily tasks can be repetitive but its always different people talking to me and the people i work with make it a great place as they motivate you and help you when needed. I also enjoy it as i am able to freely ask for extra support on college work if needed.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I get given set days to complete college work tasks, but if i need more time i ask and they make sure to provide me with more. My team also has a shared calendar which helps everyone know what their daily tasks are, it also helps others know what other people are doing to save questions.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get support when needed, if i ask for help an anything they help as much as possible and if they are unable to they work with me to see if we can complete it together. If i ask for more time on certain tasks / jobs they make sure to fit it into the schedule

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • It can sometimes take a while to get responses from emails where i ask for help but when they do reply i get the help and support i need. I get monthly calls with my tutor which helps me understand my upcoming tasks / courses and how to complete each of them

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i get a better understanding of what is going on in a business and the different task that need to be thought of / completed for the company to succeed. It has also helped me with knowing which way is better to communicate to certain people as i have to use multiple different techniques

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • They have a few extra activities that people can participate in, and these are usually to help raise money for charity. But they don’t have that much going off, they sometimes have events for apprentices to attend which is to bring us all together and learn how to work as a team.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think it’s a great place to work and that the people there are always friendly and willing to help. There are also multiple chances to improve yourself in the company as they offer different calls / courses to go on to help further develop any skill you want. There are also multiple chances to work your way through the company


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
  • If you are applying for a job, I would recommending knowing more about what the company does as a lot of it resolves around construction. I would also recommend taking as many as there courses as possible as it helps not only your life skills but also the skills needed for your job
