Apprentice trained by Bam in all management disciplines as part of the work placement. Consisting of site management, quantity surveying, health and safety, site engineering, building services and planning. I shadow a senior manager in those roles in rotation. Getting involved across all elements with Bam managers and supply chains.
I have gained a multitude of skills and confidence to put in practice my knowledge built over the academic course and on-site experience. Sequences, processes and procedures with management and liaising with clients, supply chains and communities to build relationships in the industry and develop from their trades and skills.
Various elements of the industry are stuck into during the apprenticeship and it is a fact of learning from specialist managers who have had many years of experience. Most are welcoming to provide guidance and knowledge. Learning each discipline and becoming all rounded is something I’ve really enjoyed.
Bam offer an organised rotation across construction management roles. Providing support with early careers, reviews, guidance to keep apprentices on track and well equipped with opportunities and information. The academic side under the course providers control (college) and there are areas of improvement in the delivery of the academic course.
Satisfactory support from Bam. Offering a variety of information and ways to track our career and collating feedback from other colleagues to improve. Bam Staff and subcontractors are welcoming to provide a multitude of opportunities to learn and most are happy to share knowledge and their specialist skills (management discipline/ trade).
Adequate support from training provider. There are areas of delivery of the course that could be improved in consistency and further support. Especially where block or day releases to study can be rushed and keeping a work and life balance can be challenging. Requiring a more organised study period.
It offers foundation knowledge of the industry processes, procedures and methodologies that are part of daily construction management. Putting that basic academic knowledge into practice ensures not only safety but a way of thinking. On-site experience is how I best learn, developing skills physically, capability to adapt with construction circumstances.
Sports teams, events with communities, national apprenticeship day, local councils involvement, site visits for Uni/school students. Environmental, health and safety talks and activities with schools. Sharing our apprentice experiences with Bam.
Yes
Plenty of opportunities and benefits to learning with Bam with an apprenticeship. Various jobs which provide different challenges and necessary exposure to the construction industry. Ability to train in various roles not just construction management. Well equipped with information and guidance to progress.
Definitely recommend. Provision of company support and opportunities to develop. If you are interested in a career in construction, even if you’re unsure on an exact role. The skills and knowledge gained is universal. Apprenticeships offer on-site on the job training which is vital in progressing a career.
