My role as an Apprentice Social Impact Advisor has many and different responsibilities. From admin tasks like keeping records and taking minutes to writing posts for social media, creating flyers, editing videos and talking to pupils about careers in construction. My favorite part of this role is that i have the opportunity to make an impact by raising money and volunteering for different charities.
So far, I have learnt so many skills! Some of them are communication, copywriting, presentation skills, managing my workload, admin skills and I have learnt to use in an advanced level Adobe Suite.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship so far, I have learnt many things both soft skills and hard skills that will help me to progress my career in the future. In addition, I have met many new people. But my most favorite part of my apprenticeship is that I have the opportunity to volunteer and raise money for different charities.
My programme is well organised. 80% of my time is on work and 20% is for studying at college. MY first year, I was shadowing other members of my team with more experience and I had some responsibilities. Now, on my second year I have more tasks to complete and I am taking more initiative to develop something new.
Great support from the organisation and from my manager to develop my skills and to complete my studies at college.
Not much support, I am not very happy from college. As part of my qualification I had to complete some modules and the ECDL certificate. My accessor is very supportive but while I was studying for ECDL college wasn`t able to help at all. I found it very difficult to complete this certificate.
Completing ECDL certificate was the most useful part of my training with college as it helped me to use better Microsoft applications
Balfour Beatty runs the Brathay challenge where in your second year of your apprenticeship you are part of a regional team where you have some challenges to complete and you compete with other teams in your region as well. As part of this competition, there is a week in District Lake for teambuilding challenges. I took part this year and t was a great experience where i had the chance to meet other apprentices from the company.
Yes
Balfour Beatty is a great company to work with. I`ve been with them for 2,5 years and I have received lots of support to complete my studies at college and to develop my skills in the workplace. My manager and the other collegues are always very helpful.
To secure a role with the company, you will need the right attitude, show some interest of what is going on and be proactive. If you have any experience is always welcome from the organisation.
