My role as a project development engineer is to manage asset replacement and refurbishment projects from the start until the finish and cooperate with various stakeholders involved during this.
Yes, I have learnt lots of new skills. The National Grid has paid for me to get my CSCS card, has paid for me to gain a qualification in asset management and has also provided many other types of training.
I enjoy my program a lot. It involves a lot of travelling, I have been to Wokingham, Eakring, Leeds and Warwick during my apprenticeship. I have had the opportunity to meet many people and everyone within grid are very helpful and very friendly.
The program is very well structured. It has been a difficult time during COVID and it has still affected my course from September. Grid has adapted well and has always included myself and the other apprentices in decisions when it comes to organisation.
The National Grid offers more support than anywhere else that I have worked previously. All the employees are very kind and approachable and more importantly experts. So whenever I need help there is always somebody there that can assist. I also have been assigned a personal mentor.
Aston University has been helpful. I think the delivery has been affected by COVID. They have HELM books which are revision books that assist in all of the relevant mathematics that you may need help with. They also offer 1-1 sessions.
The qualification that I am working towards has given me an understanding of the function of the assets that I am required to refurb or replace. I appreciate their importance in the network we have.
Yes, the national grid has a gym at my local office. They also host a virtual coffee morning every week where different people from around the company spend an hour talking and getting to know eachother.
Yes
The opportunities that I have for a better life at National Grid is endless. I am paid well, well equipped with knowledge and resources and also am conducting meaningful work that could help the UK work towards greener energy.
Work hard and always take the advice given to you.
