  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an Architectural Apprentice in my third year of studies at London South Bank University, graduating in summer 2023 with a RIBA Part 1 degree. I work for the Building and Project Consultancy team, as part of KKS Savills located at Great Peter Street. I have worked on a number of exciting projects during my time at Savills, from large scale corporate towers to smaller residential proposals. I aid the design team by producing 3D design models, realistic visuals and technical drawing packs, ready for the construction process. Working on RIBA Stages 2-5.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a huge range of new skills during my time at Savills. - Software knowledge and skills in Revit, Sketchup, AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite. - Technical knowledge and exposure, on site visits. - Confidence gained from client meetings and interactions. - Networking and social skills improved massively.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I extremely enjoy my apprenticeship programme, sponsored by Savills. I have a huge support network, with amazing opportunities. Being a Savills Apprentice has has given a well-rounded understanding of the industry and ‘the working life’ with support from some of the best in the business.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of my apprenticeship programme at Savills is exceptional. I am supported at every stage of my course and training. I have weekly meetings with my mentors to discuss my university work, and company project work. Savills have a number of Learning and Development staff who provide great support. Bia- annual Apprentice Days are organised by Savills for all apprentices to network and learn selected topics in relation to the APC process.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support system within Savills is extremely well organised. I understand who my mangers and mentors are. They all actively reach out to me to discuss my university work and company project work. They help me set weekly tasks and targets. They make sure I have all the support needed. I am provided with study leave during my university deadline months.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training providers help me step by step and push me to achieve the best. I am guided throughout the whole process of RIBA Part 1 Architecture. I love attending university, with like minded and enthusiastic peers. Our tutors provide 1 to 1 tutorials to discuss our coursework, they help us improve and develop.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The skills and knowledge learnt during my apprenticeship aid me when completing company tasks. My development at Savills is also very beneficial to my coursework, I am able to apply different ways of thinking, which develops my design philosophy.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Savills provide a number of interesting and beneficial events: - A huge range of networking events to meet peers. - Savills have cricket, golf, rugby, cycling, running and football teams -CPD's are arranged by Savills for staff to learn and develop their skills. - We have monthly drinks internally within Savills to network and meet new people who can support one another.

  • Yes

  • Savills have provided individual training and development that has built my confidence, developed my skills and taught me valuable lessons which have become the foundations to my career, and future progression. I am proud to be part of Savills, they are an amazing company to work for. I would recommend all students looking to start an apprenticeships, to get to know Savills and the company service lines. Many think Savills is only an estate agency! Which couldn't be more wrong! Savills will provide you with industry leading experience and exposure.

  • -Get to know Savills and the company service lines. Many think Savills is only an estate agency. -Make connections within the industry. LinkedIn is a great platform to connect with professional bodies, peers and mentors. -Savills will provide you with industry leading experience and exposure. Have an open mind and involve yourself with all aspects, both professionally and socially.
