I work as an account manager in the value channel. I have to help organise events (internal and external), manage customer relations and keep on top of regular admin work. At the moment I am helping run the numbers call with another member of the team which is fun and helping me improve my presentation skills which is one I have wanted to work on for a while now.
I have learnt so many new skills, my first skill I learnt was how to communicate in a big organisation with different stakeholders and what was appropriate. I have also built on my confidence as I have settled into the business and the role, this has really helped me in my role and outside of work which I am grateful for! My last skill I wanted to improve was my presentation skills and that is still being worked on but has improved drastically since starting with Unilever.
I really enjoy the work side of the programme where I have to work with my manager and my team but I struggle with the apprenticeship side of it. When I signed up for the apprenticeship it was meant to be a business admin course but they changed it to a data technician course without saying and that's made it hard for me to concentrate on it when it wasn't what I wanted to do.
I think Unilever is well organised business. When I first joined it was hybrid working and even with the usual struggles with wifi issues and laptop issues everything was handled well. I feel well supported from my manager and my team they are always there to help me when I am needing help.
I receive a lot of support from my manager, we have weekly catch ups then if I need extra support with a project then I know I can always put time in both our diaries and we can work together to find a solution. My manage has a positive attitude to problems she helps me figure them out without just telling me how to do it, which I like.
I receive good support from my training provider, I have recently been struggling with motivation and getting my coursework done but my coach at multiverse has really helped me try to find the cause so we can create a solution to help me get my motivation back to how it was.
I would say it hasn't really helped me in my role, my role is very data orientated so I have had to pick up excel skills and the programs we us in our roles quickly in order to progress further. I feel like I would have a leg up in the industry as my role is quite data focused so that is a bonus.
Yes, there are many activities run by work which we can get involved in. Recently, I have taken part in a dodgeball event which gets all of customer development involved so everyone can meet people from other teams and get to know each other better which is a really good idea otherwise I wouldn't get the chance to meet half of them.
Yes
Unilever is a great place to learn, make friends and build on skills you want to improve. I have met so many nice people from Unilever compared to when I was working before. I think the office is a really good place to be as everyone is friendly and the work environment is lovely.
BE YOURSELF! That is the best way to show yourself off. I would also say effort is another really good way to show how you work, everyone loves effort and if you show you are wiling to learn and work for something that quality is very valuable in an employer. You don't have to get it right every time but if you show you are willing to work that is amazing.
