My role is to complete tasks on site as a Civil Engineer. This includes, setting out, inspections, as-builts, surveying etc.
I have managed to develop a lot of skills from previous experience including using equipment like the Leica GPS and a Digi Level. New skills include setting up and use of a total station and pratctical site skills (e.g. setting out for kerbs and paving).
I've really enjoyed my experience on my placement and have loved facing different challenges.
My on site experience has been very well organised but the placement group project work could have been run a little smoother.
There is plenty of support from different levels within the company and everyone was very helpful when I needed it.
Plenty of check-in emails and a 'site visit' but maybe not enough personal contact.
My degree is more focused on design and consultancy however it has still helped me understand drawings and designs whilst on my site placement.
Plenty of opportunities to socialise but not many sports activities etc.
