I look after the checkout and customer service desk. We also have a large click and collect at our store also. I complete all department training, rotas, control wages. I am also responsible for planning holidays and absence. I act as duty manager a few days a week and open and close the building.
While completing this degree I have improved my skills in so many areas. Negotiation skills is an area I have improved on the most and not something that I have ever really thought much about. My writing and reading skills have also improved over the last four years. I understand more areas of the business and not just what happens at shop level.
I have really enjoyed working on this degree over the past four years. Studying online was tough over the pandemic which the tutors still make it work. The face to face training has been amazing and the lecturers have so much knowledge to tap into and that has been really enjoyable.
The programme is structured very well. Each turn we complete two assignments in one area of business. You also have a project running each year that you have to work on also. All of the university is well organised and everything is planned to help us gain everything we need to get a great grade.
My employer is very supportive and they have funded this apprenticeship which is amazing. I would have never had the chance to go to University late on in life without them. The key is planning with your employer so that you can both get what you need. 10/10 from them.
The training providers give you the most support. The lecturers are really informative and they make sure you know everything you need to achieve a great grade. We also have a Skills Coach who will do everything they can to help you. They will be the go between with regards to the Uni and your work.
The skills and knowledge I learned on the course include things that I can use in my role. I think it can make a big practical difference. It has helped me to see things from different points of view. The core skills align to my job and this also helped me to perform better.
My work has lots of social activities away from the store. These include going to see musicals, shows and concerts. We plan meals out to different venues and we go to a wide variety of different cuisines. Some people in store take part in five a side football and they play against other stores.
Yes
Asda have been an amazing firm to work for. I have managed five different departments across the shop. I was lucky enough to be selected to go to the USA for a week. Asda offer so many training courses at so many different levels so there is something to everyone.
You apply for jobs online so it’s worth keeping a lookout for jobs in your area. Try to think of different customer service Scenarios that you have been involved in to use at interview. If you are lucky enough to gain employment the best thing you can do is to try and learn as many departments as possible so you can pick up overtime across the store.
