  • Apprentice Quantity Surveyor: - Delivering elements of Cost Management assignments under the supervision of more senior members of staff - Working on live projects ensuring the project is within budget and controlling and managing the costs - Valuations, pre-contract estimating, benchmarking, post-contract administration - To provide work outputs in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Existing skills that have been developed: - Communication - Presenting - IT skills such as the use of excel etc. - Team working - Self motivation due to challenges and deadlines to meet within the role - Organisation - Multi tasking Skills learnt: - Measuring using CostX - The ability to write professional emails - Health & Safety in working environment

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is designed for apprentices to work on live projects and learn day-to-day tasks within your chosen job role. Working on a live project and visiting site is really interesting as you can see the work you do behind the scenes in person. There are great social activities too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is very well introduced. There is: - Great support for university. - Discussion meetings about progress - Training modules - Preparations for RICS APC - Great introduction to the wider business and team To improve: - Provide a designated person for day-to-day training - More exposure to live projects from the start.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support is really important within the company. Colleagues make you feel very welcome and are friendly to allow you to approach them for support. The HR team are great when you have an issue. My appointed mentor is always there for help when needed. My line manager always provides support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is never ending support from the training provider. I have a designated apprenticeship outcomes officer who reaches out for support with any issues etc. The tutors are easily accessible for help. - The university work can be a lot to manage whilst working full time. - Great guidance from previous apprentices.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There are modules that gain you knowledge and an understanding of the work you complete within practice. There are times where you will put the theory into practice and will notice this. I haven't completed university yet but believe i will learn more about my role from university learning.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Despite that we are slowly recovering from the pandemic and things are starting to get back to normal there have been many social company events so far and continue to do so. - There is a social once a month - There are communities you can get involved in - Christmas, easter events

  • Yes

  • Arcadis are a very good company to work for. - The support you receive from colleagues - The training programme is very good for your learning - Charity days you can sign up to which is brilliant - There are great opportunities to work on amazing live projects - They are true to their values.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arcadis?
  • - The application process was okay. A game based test which was quite difficult however, was challenging which was interesting and unique to other application processes. - Responses and feedback to application progression. - Onboarding involves a lot of introduction training. I would have liked to be told the salary pay for apprentices.
