I am a tax advisor in the VAT team. I mainly provide advisory services to businesses relating to their UK and overseas VAT affairs. I also draft and submit VAT returns for a number of clients. I regularly analyse VAT data using excel, write letters in word and email advice using outlook
I have developed a lot of soft skills such as communication and networking skills. I regularly use lots of IT programs which has massively improved my skills in these, especially in excel where I have developed massively. I have obviously learnt a lot of technical VAT and general tax knowledge.
I enjoy the program but it does feel quite long from start to finish.
My program is very well structured with a lot of exams and coursework to complete. I also have the chance to complete a lot of formal training with my employer as well as informal learning and day to day with my job. Tolley provide all tax exam training which is very well structured.
My employer provides a lot of support and has accommodated many of my needs during the program
Tolley is the training provider for all the Tax exams and they are great. We receive all course materials and legislation for free. Every course has a revision session included too. There is a portal online where there are more practise questions you would ever need and past papers. There is also a student forum.
Up to now, a lot of my training hasn't been massively helpful for my role as I have done a lot of accounting and general tax exams, whereas my role specifically deals with VAT. However, I like that I have been able to learn different things and it has indirectly helped me in my job.
Not many but there are network events and the scope to do a lot of charity work
Yes
I enjoy it here and they look after us reasonably well. My colleagues are great too.
Just be yourself as they like to pride themselves on their people
