i am a customer assistant, this role means that i help customers find what products they need and give them information on products. my role also includes putting away stock, tidying shelves , making sure products are priced properly and put in the right place so that people can see them.
I have definitely gained a lot of confidence since starting work and have managed to overcome a lot of my difficulties with anxiety. I have also learnt a lot of skills while working, for example I've learnt how to drive the wave and use a ppt, I have also learnt how to gap manage and locate products to certain selling locations.
i enjoy my program as it is teaching me a lot of things that I didn't realise were so important when working in retail. I have learnt that your body language is one of the most important things when dealing with customers and can mean the difference between a sale and no sale.
the programme is very well structured as I know exactly what I need to do and when. I check everyday to see if I have been given more work to complete and the site is very easy to navigate and check. I can also see my progress and whether I'm on target
I receive a lot of support from my employer. he always checks up on how I'm doing and if I need help with anything. he also gives me a good amount of time at work to complete my tasks. he has also offered ways to boost my knowledge about retail, for example going to another store and seeing how they work differently to us.
my traning provider gives me all the resources i need to learn about my course, for example they have a range of video learning, written information and scenarios so you can imagine yourself in that particular situation which can help people that may struggle with trying to put themselves in that situation.
I feel like my apprenticeship is helping me to work a lot better with customers and teaches me how to provide the best customer service that I can give. its teaching me while I'm working so I can apply the tips and tricks while in serving on the shop floor.
I don't think we offer extra-curricular activities at work. however it may be something that i could bring to one of my managers to try and improve on staff commitment and it may help with staff bonding and getting employees to work with people they may not usually work with.
Yes
I would recommend working for B&Q because you get many benefits while working for them, for example a 20% discount which you use more than you think. the amount of holiday you get is really good at 6 weeks and its a really nice working environment particularly at the B&Q I work in.
I would say to expect to be on your feet a lot of the time as you'll be working round a store with customers. make sure you actually want to do the job your applying for as the customers really value someone who is happy and willing to do their job.
