  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day-to-day duties vary between the four sectors I work on, so some days can be mainly focusing on processing a learners achievements and exams, whereas others can be the beginning of their course and getting them set up to start their learning journey. There are also office jobs which are done on site when we are there which benefit the team as a whole, so the work is quite varied.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot since starting my apprenticeship, and I am continuing to develop the skills I have already gained. I had next to no experience of admin work when I started, as I rarely needed to do any work like I do now in my previous role, and had a brief history of using Microsoft Office for education.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my programme, as I am learning a great deal and continuing the develop this further. I am becoming more confident in myself and the role I do, and I am enjoying building on this further and becoming more skilled at my role, and completing my apprenticeship as it is a qualification I will have from now on.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It has a great deal of structure to it, with monthly calls with my tutor where tasks are set for the following month which coincide with the training at these sessions, and we go over the work from the previous month. It is also structured in a way that your knowledge is building as you progress.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support as I am working alongside a fellow apprentice, so I always have someone there who can assist me and offer me guidance. I am learning my job role as I do my apprenticeship, so I have a great deal of support and feel I can always go to someone if I have an issues or questions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Again, I receive the same amount of support as my employer is my training provider. Apprenticeships are taken seriously as it is what we provide and our job is centred around apprenticeships, so there is always support available. My tutor is also always available to get back to me about any queries I may have.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me a great deal as it explains in more detail why we do what we do and how it impacts the rest of the business as a whole, and gives me a greater understanding of processes in order to do my job. My apprenticeship coincides with my role and gives me a more indepth understanding of my job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have team meetings every fortnight where we catch up, do group jobs and have one on ones with our manager, and we all get lunch together as a social element to the job and acts as an informal work day where we have the opportunity to team build and informally raise isuses about work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Realise to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Realise to a friend because it is a very inclusive workplace with lots of support and guidance, and lots of opportunities to learn and gain new skills. It also is a very flexible and relaxed working environment, so although there is a lot to do, it is a good kind of challenging which affords a greater work/life balance.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Realise?
  • I would advise others starting at Realise learning and employment to be prepared to learn, and to be able to manage their time well as you need to be organised and plan ahead to get your work done on time. There is a lot of work to do, but as long as you are organised and prepared to ask questions it is a bearable workload and rewarding.
