  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role involves auditing client's accounts for a range of different reporting regulations. I usually spend time with my team of 8 in the morning at either the PwC office or the client office, where we regroup on how the work is going and look at any queries. Any remaining queries are worked with the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There is a 2 week training period at the beginning of each of the 3 placements with assessments to help with our audit work and get used to PwC systems. There are also weekly calls around my specialist area - insurance with external guest speakers. The work itself is very demanding so we learn a lot through help from our seniors.

It can often be difficult however the team always help pull you through and offer support. • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very clearly set out with time spent at university studying and placements arranged in year 2, 3 and 4 with only one university subject to study while on placement. We can reach out for help at both the university and while on placement through our career coach. Programme co-ordinators often check in too.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is the university of Nottingham and our training is run jsut like any other university course; attending regular lectures, seminars and small group sessions. You can email your personal tutor at any time with any issues or to discuss exam results as well as your individual lecturers.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As the training includes both a degree and ACA professional accounting qualification from ICAEW it offers both insight into the practical work we do on placements and after university, but also provides the academic background into the topics. For example, we learn the basics of accounting for our degree but then can use this in our audit work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many different social groups to get involved with including sports, wellness, year group representatives as well as the actual social groups that organise regular events throughout the year. You also have lots of social events wiht your year group from other universities to make friends with more colleagues.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC is a well established brand with some excellent clients and great structure, allowing you to be exposed to challenging opportunities. The clear structure means you are always provided with appropriate level work so that the learning at each stage can be maximised. PwC also create a large community or professionals with great contacts

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • I would make sure that you truly understand the work we do and PwC's values as this is at the core of PwC. Often people have no experience in audit so it's your personal brand and soft skillset used in other areas/experience that will make you stand out.
