  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involved helping out my line manager on a day to day basis such as filling out documents such as contracts for him, along with attending meetings and reporting back any important information. I would also be helping with any general assistance such as compilng spreadsheets and checking figures

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt a wide range of new skills whislt on placement, firstly i substantially improved by communication and collaboration skills as I was working in a team environment on a day to day basis. I also learnt a lot regarding the QS role and what it entails, such as estimating

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my programme a lot, I got too meet a lot of friendly like minded individuals who were always open for a conversation. Also I got the opportunity to challenge myself with the work and gain valuable experience which I will be able to take forward once i graduate.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was very well organised there was a lot of training provided whereby I would have whole day training courses giving me the opportunity to learn and develop whilst at work. Also I would always be in contact with my line manager who would keep me upto date everyday.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a lot of support from my employer, they as previosuly mentioned provided me with a lot of training and courses. Also put me forward for a CSCS course, health and safety awareness course so I was able to get a certificate for each and an extra important qualification.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As mentioned I receievd considerable training, when i first arrived i was given time to adjust to the new way of working and got training on the system. There was a lot of videos provided on how to use the software along with additional in person day courses which were

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helped me performed my role a lot better, the training gave me insightful knowledge which i was directly able to apply into everyday working activities. This knowledge then allowed me to perform my role at a substaintially higher level than what I was previousy able to achieve, so was

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there were a lot of acitvities, there was a football team which ran on every wednesday evening which anyone was welcome to attend. Also there were running clubs during lunch times, and on a friday there would be a social event where everyone would go out for lunch together

  • Yes

  • I would recommend Balfour beatty because they provided me with a great year out placement, where I got to meet very friendly people and was able to enjoy working on a daily basis. Also it provided me with a great opportunity to further expand my knowledge and develop my skills

  • I would advise them to defintely apply as previously mentioned it is a great company with a lot of great members of staff. I would also recommend looking into your role in more detail so you are familiar with all the aspects so when you come to the job you
