day to day i look after our portfolio of jobs in all 3 disciplines, looking at the duration of the job, how many people are needed on the job e.g Project Managers, Engineers, Environmental teams etc. i then liase with the resource managers in my team and other clients such as National Grid to ensure we can meet their project requirements. i also liase with many other areas of the business to gather addiotnal information and scope.
since starting with Balfour Beatty, i have developed many skills, i have improved my communication skills, facilitation skills due to having to lead many calls, my confidence has increased massively. i would say i have learnt how to be persevering. both at uni and at work, it was alot at the start and i felt very out of depth in an industry i knew nothing about so could have easily threw in the towel but pushed through it and now im enjoying what i do
i am really enjoying it. the way my uni module is done means i get to do an assignment on different areas within the business. i have done one in merketing, innovations, quality, procurement for example. so thats helping with my exposure. uni as well as the emerging talent programme at Balfour Beatty has allowed me to meet individuals doing the same as me and the Brathay challenge was a good opportunity to interact with lots of other apprentices on a less formal basis
I'd say very structured. I get regular updates and communications about what is happening both at uni and anything emerging talent related at work. i feel informed about my next uni modules and when they start, deadlines etc and also know who to reach out to both at uni and at work which is really good
Balfour Beatty as a whole have been very supportive, any one i have spoken to has always offered me help and guidance and offered to put time in to run over things i may not be familiar with. my direct team and line manager have been great, showing an interest, always checking in and offering me help
they are typically very helpful. there has been some lecturers in the previous modules that weren't very descriptive, this was mainly on the online teaching, however when we started back in person teaching the lecturers were very helpful. always answering questions, breaking things down in detail and always reminding us to send a snippet of our assignment to see if were on the right tracks.
it has given me a more well rounded view of the business and an insight into different departments and what they do daily. it has also given me more exposure, forced me to speak to people i wouldn't usually interact with therefore makes me more confident when speaking to them in the workplace
I am part of the employee forum which plans social events, chrismtas parties, charity events etc but also looks at any issues in the offices, were having a refurb in the office which we have had a big impact on and i have been quite highly involved with the forum. i have also attended 2 leadership events now which were nerve-wracking but have been great for getting to know colleagues, especially after the covid pandemic
Yes
I've found there is just so many opportunities, for progression, to meet new people. I feel like I've pushed outside my comfort zone working here but definitely in a good way. its a great company to work for and there are so many benefits. i know many people hat started as apprentices and now 5/6 years later are still here and enjoying it the same.
to look around all the options first as there is so many vacancies live on the careers website. but also dont feel limited to that. i have had great opportunities to move within teams and try something new. i'd also say just be confident and be yourself in interviews. everyone working here is down to earth and all they want to see from you is your true self
