I work as a nursery assistant doing a early years practitioner apprenticeship. My role is to help look after babies and toddlers in the nursery and to help them learn through play in their early years before starting school. I also have to make sure that there are no risks to the children and that they have a safe and happy environment.
I still have some of my apprenticeship to go but so far I have learned lots of new skills from the training like how different children develop and how to communicate with children at a young age. I have also learned more about how to keep children safe including paediatric first aid. I have also learned a lot from shadowing other people at work.
I really enjoy my programme, my trainer is great, she always helps me when I'm struggling. I love working in childcare and think that the apprenticeship has helped me learn a lot but also has helped me to understand different ways to learn and what other things i can do when I'm finished.
I think that the apprenticeship is well organised and structured. I always know what work I need to be doing and i have lots of help from my trainer. She is always available if I need to discuss my progress. I have work to do on onefile which my employer gives me time for and i have regular reviews which help me.
I get lots of support from my employer. I have a mentor at work who helps me and gives me time to complete go to my webinars and complete my work. My employer is really great, they are really open and easy to talk to so if I ever feel like I need help I can always ask them.
As said above, i get lots of support from my training provider. I can always always ring or text my trainer and she always gets back to me quite quickly. She helped me to understand the best way that I work so that the apprenticeship is suited to me. I understand what work I have to do and my trainer is always very clear
I can perform better in my role as I have learnt lots of things I didn't know before about children and their development. I know a lot more about safeguarding now and I also have a lot more confidence and I am also improving my english and maths skills
Not really, sometimes I meet my colleagues after work but we don't have anything like sports teams or networking
