  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Making sure I am alert for customers needing help and keeping an eye that the aisles are safe, products are shocked up, face up, correctly labelled. I also put deliveries away and help other départements of they need help. I also make sure to fix packages that have been open and check that products are still in date and undamaged.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The apprenticeship has been great! With researchers I understood why some procédures are the way they are..but also made me more alert on things such as what is a health and safety issue and how to deal with it. It also have improvement my english especially written english.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really did! I believe the program can be done in 18month...I finished it in 5..I was looking forward to each meeting and for more homework. My tutor was very encouraging too. I hope I can get in to another apprenticeship too. Such great opportunity and expérience !

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was very organised and structure..some units do repeat which may be confusing at first but it all links. Each unit is very well divided in 2 section: knowledge question and personal experience. As well as being observed at work. It was great experience for me as I like structured teaching.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Was great support from employer and colleagues. If I wasn't sure if I had understood a question they would happily take the time to explain to me so I could understand. But they ve always been a great help and supportive every time I needed help on something I wasn't sure of.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Great support! I always know that if I ask something it is not being ignored and each time I can see that my career is improving and I am constantly able to learn things and get trained on new things which I am very excited about. I m always being listened in the things I speak about and they are taken in consideration which I am very thankful about

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Yes I am more focused on things that I have learnt during my apprenticeship. More alert to potential hazard, more knowledgeable of procedures and regulation which also helps me I form customers in some situations such as challenge 25. I understand better how the store and my organisation work on daily basis as well as financial targets.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, we on regular basis have tombola that helps raise money for charity as well as some people taking parts to charity runs etc.. we also have colleagues party (when covid rules were lifted) and I believe some people do play football together but because I came during covid I am not sure of all the activities

  • 9a. Would you recommend B&Q to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Such great place to work, learn new things, get trained on different things too.. Good atmosphere and support within the staff and management team. Lots of opportunities to progress in a career which there is a diversity of to chose from (customer advisor in garden, paint, showroom hardware, finance or in management, etc)


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to B&Q?
  • Always be aware that you are not on your own, there will always be people able to help you. And be also ready to help colleagues if you are free to do so. Keep a good attitude and motivation, always encouraging and also remaining polite and calm with customers no matter their attitude.
