supporting adults with learning disabilities to live independently in the community supporting with daily living washing cooking cleaning learning new skills also community support and making new connections and supporting them to maintain these connections healthily supporting health and wellbeing needs by managing appointments medication emotional needs personal cares and overall wellbeing
i am always learning new skills the job is very demanding of new skills i am currently doing a course on challenging behaviour and have learnt many techniques whilst doing this also a level 2 in IT better ways of managing behaviours and avoiding them i have also completed an entry level 5 in aspiring management
i enjoy learning new things and new ways of working i am very curious the programes are easy to navigate and there is a lot of support from tutors it is a bit stressful at times juggling work and a course but the benefits gained are worth the pressure in the long run
very well structured and organised the course programme is well set out and has all the resources needed to help complete the programme sometimes the courses time limits can be quite demanding but the help is there when needed and extensions can be given to help with these demands x
not enough as the role is very demanding and due to the staffing crisis throughout the health and social care sector this does not help as time is limited when trying to juggle work home life a course and a disability it becomes very stressful at times and support is stretched
as much or as little as we like there is always support to hand they can never do enough for you to help you get through it they have a portal and telephone support you have an allocated tutor to contact when needed who regularly checks in cant grummble really
my course enables me to have better knowledge around my role and the pressures i may face this helps me be more organised and be able to deal with anything that may come my way it helps with managing my role better and being able to assist the people we support
we have a wide range of knowledge on our training system for all employees to access but unfortunately we do not have the time to do most of these unless this is a direct activity done with the people we support we do highly support the LGBQT and we do a lot around mental well being
No
As an employee myself i am well aware of the demands and stresses of having a work life balance but this is not always the case i have given up way more than i should as we look after real people and sometimes they with not fault of their own become priority of our lives and this takes over
Be open and honest when at interview please do not commit to anything you are not comfortable with just to get the job and if you need the support ask for it also please do not rush into anything think things through this is a very demanding role and committing to it can be rewarding but there is also a flip side
