  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • During our first year on the retail scheme we spend 12 weeks getting to know the store and being given a brief overview to how each department operates. We then go into a team leader role where we begin to gain deeper knowledge of being a manager in retail. I work on the Amazon department so my daily tasks are completing inventory walks, leading a large team to ensure all metrics are met, completing various tasks throughout the day to ensure the team is running smoothly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The main skill I have developed during my time on the course is my leadership skills. Morrisons provides us with plenty of resources and online training courses to help us build are professional development skills and this is something we have to work on each month and is monitored by our scheme leaders.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the freedom to be able to direct my learning to an area which interests me, there is a to of choices to make and you will rarely find yourself doing something you won't enjoy as you can simply as to change to something more suitable for yourself.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure was set in place from when I first started the scheme however I quickly realised it was quite slow paced however I found if you prove yourself capable then you can easily be given more challenges and responsibility if you ask for it. I think each individual learns at a different pace.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I receive from the store manager and HR manager is amazing and early careers and our scheme leaders at Morrisons are always willing to help with various ways to contact them and also they arrange visits for us all to go head office which provides us great opportunities to discuss any worries in person.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In-between our week long block sessions at the university the lectures always arrange drop in video calls where we can ask any questions and also [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who is in charge of the course at the university is so helpful and always there for us 24/7 looking after both our university work but also our well-being when we are away from our families at university. Any issues regarding literally anything she is happy to help with,

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • we recently did a human resource management module and everything we learnt during the week was so helpful and knowledge we can use in our day to day lives however some modules like accounting I find a bit pointless and I don't see why I need to know that to be a retail manager.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • not that im aware off however there might be on different schemes such as the corporate one. in terms of retail the only thing I can think of is helping your in store community champion with charity work but this will be done in your own time not works time
