I typically work on the cashiering role at the moment, which means I'm mostly processing automatic processes, allocating incoming payments and I'm also responsible for a bank reconciliation.
Yes, I have learnt some skills specific to the business, like how to use certain in-house software. I have also improved my pre-existing skills, like communication, time management and networking. In addition, I've learnt a number of new skills from the Kaplan side of the apprenticeship.
I am enjoying the program overall. It provides me a lot of structure and routine, which I find very helpful for determining how best to spend time and when to focus on what.
I think overall the program is well structured, as it I'm given targets and multiple different ways to achieve them. I'm also offer the option of how I want to learn or be taught, which helps substantially.
I receive a reasonable amount of support from my employer. They are always able to move around my schedule in order to accommodate my study leave and exam days. They also check in on me regularly to make sure I'm doing okay.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. Between our mandatory sessions, I send a lot of emails and messages in order to communicate and ask for clarification or assistance on a topic. On the whole, I'm satisfied with this.
Initially, I was unsure about how much my qualification would help me to perform my role, but now I'm convinced it is hugely beneficial. A lot of the topics that my qualification covers occur regularly in my role, and now I have a substantially better understanding.
There are some extra-curricular activities that I get involved in at work. I haven't attended many due to a combination of covid restrictions still being in place a lot of the time and my own social anxiety.
Yes
They've been good to me as a business, and the work-apprenticeship combination has been helpful for me. I'd definitely recommend it as an alternative to university.
Be prepared for a lengthy interview process and there are some tasks you'll be set during this process.
