My role as a quantity surveyor is to manage financial and contractual aspects of a construction project, this includes, cost analysis, speaking with internal and external clients, ensuring project costs are correct and within budget and managing subcontractors to ensure they are paid correctly
I have completed a construction level 3 diploma and am currently studying a degree in quantity surveying learning about cost management. I do regular training courses to gain an in depth knowledge of traffic management and learn the different aspects of quantity surveying
Overall I enjoy learning different aspects of quantity surveying and working alongside a team with help from others when required, I enjoy my programme as It ensures I learn new skills within my role daily and I enjoy attending university to learn different aspects of construction
My programme is well organised, I attend regular training and am well supported, when I require help or assistance I am able to ask a member of the team. I have regular reviews with my line manager and university mentor to see where I need to improve within my role
I receive support from my line manager and team regularly by having review meetings to enable me to set goals and see where I need to Improve and going through any task I am struggling with
I have regular reviews with my university mentor ensure my off the job learning and one file is up to date, I speak to my university tutors if I am struggling with any assignments, however It can be difficult to get in contact with them sometimes
My qualification gives me more in depth knowledge of construction as a whole, it helps me understand certain aspects of my role on a day to day basis, however as it is first year at university the content is not much related to my role as a quantity surveyor.
There are many different activities to get Involved with such as groups and events to build working relationships

Overall I think that the company push you to reach your goals and ambitions and provide more training to ensure you can become more competent. There is always support when required.
